Oversight Project Announces Investment to Launch New Law Firm to End Lawfare

Washington, D.C.–The Oversight Project today is announcing an investment from Tom Klingenstein to launch a new law firm that will provide rapid-response legal representation to Americans facing politically motivated lawsuits, investigations, subpoenas, and professional disciplinary actions. The firm expands the Oversight Project’s existing legal capabilities and staff, and combined with its world class investigative team, it will take the fight back to those waging lawfare against innocent Americans.
The initiative is built around a simple premise: the Left has figured out it can turn political disputes into legal disputes, and the Right needs the legal infrastructure to defend itself. The Left has built a powerful network spanning almost every major law firm, backed by an army of in-house lawyers at massive nonprofits such as the Southern Poverty Law Center. The Right cannot afford to remain wholly dependent on legal defense funds paying private-counsel rates. The Oversight Project is building an in-house model that delivers new efficiencies and trains the next generation of legal warriors.
The Oversight Project’s new law firm will serve as a public-defender for the Right, giving victims of these attacks access to experienced counsel without forcing them to absorb crippling legal bills. The firm will step in as soon as a client is first targeted, utilize and further develop its specialized expertise in constitutional, administrative, ethics, and First Amendment law, and coordinate a nationwide network of aligned attorneys who can take on cases in jurisdictions across the country.
The new firm will complement the Oversight Project’s already stacked team of attorneys with legislative, executive, judicial, and state-level experience. It will advance the organization’s mission to protect victims of weaponization by giving them a team to turn to when the threat of costly litigation is used to silence them.
