Oversight Project Hails DHS Raid on Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Residence in Federal Immigration Fraud Probe
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 12, 2026
Washington, D.C.–The Oversight Project welcomed news that Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents carried out a court-approved search warrant at Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-MN) Washington, D.C. residence early this morning.
The Oversight Project has long called for Ilhan Omar’s removal from Congress. While the full scope of the investigation has not been made public, it has been reported that there is an investigation into Omar’s immigration from Somalia.
Today’s action comes after months of Oversight Project work exposing fraud in Minnesota. In January, Oversight Project investigators found more than $1 million in earmarks pushed by Rep. Omar and Sen. Amy Klobuchar for two Somali-led Minneapolis nonprofits, Generation Hope and Justice Empowerment Initiative, in the House DOJ funding bill. The money was removed after Reps. Chip Roy and Ralph Norman and Sen. Mike Lee stepped in. One week later, Sens. Mike Lee and Joni Ernst opened an investigation and wrote to Attorney General Pam Bondi.
The principle is simple. Whether investigators uncover immigration fraud, misuse of public money or other crimes, no one who has defrauded the American people belongs in the United States Congress. Anyone who gained citizenship by fraud has no right to stay.
Mike Howell, President of the Oversight Project, gave this statement:
"It's time for Ilhan Omar to go home. She has overstayed her welcome and made a mockery of our laws and of our Congress. There is a deep infiltration by individuals with foreign allegiances into our politics. This needs to be swiftly addressed, beyond just Omar. It may seem normal because it's been happening for a while, but it certainly is not normal. This is America and it's time to start acting like it. Thank you to the Department of Homeland Security for today's actions."
Scott Mechkowski, Visiting Fellow for Deportation Studies, gave this statement:
“I spent 24 years enforcing immigration law. The hardest part of that job wasn't the smugglers or the criminals we removed. It was members of Congress like Ilhan Omar. She wants to abolish the agency that enforces the laws she swore an oath to uphold. She described the 9/11 attacks as 'some people did something.' She tweeted that support for Israel in Congress was 'all about the Benjamins,' then apologized once the backlash hit. Minnesota voters should be asking why she's still there. This is America, and it's time to start acting like it.”
