Oversight Project Claims Victory After the National Academy of Science Revokes "Reference Guide for Climate Science” from Its Reference Manual

Washington, D.C.—After scrutiny from the Trump Administration, the Oversight Project, and other conservative groups, the National Academy of Science removed its chapter on climate science from its 2025 Reference Manual on Scientific Evidence. This announcement came after President Trump applied pressure on the National Academy of Science, claiming the climate science section had fraudulent information that taxpayers should not be paying for.
In April, the Oversight Project released a report highlighting how the climate science chapter was infected with bias by left-wing environmental lawyers and scholars. We called on Congress to consider defunding the entities that published the Reference Manual. The Oversight Project is pleased to see the climate section removed, as the American people and federal judges should not be misled by one-sided, highly-disputed topics around climate litigation.
Vice President of Litigation Jeff Clark gave this statement:
“Climate alarmism is trying to deindustrialize our country and leave young adults and future generations to inherit a ruined economy. The President was right to put a stop to attempts to corrupt and bias the science to pervert the judicial system. We do not need judicial fingers put on the scales of justice, and especially not to destroy our industrial might.”

The Reference Manual on Scientific Evidence serves as a quasi-authoritative guide for judges as they assess complex problems in the cases they hear. The climate science chapter of the Reference Manual was nothing short of left-wing climate plaintiff propaganda that tipped the scales of justice in their favor. The Federal Judicial Center and National Academies never should have published it in the first place but the removal of the chapter is welcomed news. We thank President Trump for his efforts to remove this biased propaganda from important legal guides.”
