Oversight Project’s Statement on Causing Congressional Investigation into Highly Suspicious Minneapolis Nonprofit

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 16, 2026

Washington, D.C. – On January 7th, the Oversight Project flagged the inclusion of a million dollar earmark for over $1 million dollars in taxpayer funds for a Somali-led, ISIS-connected, organization called “Generation Hope” and “Justice Empowerment Initiative.”  This was pushed for by Rep. Ilhan Omar and Senator Klobuchar.  Due to a public advocacy campaign led by the Oversight Project, this earmark was removed from a government funding bill.  Yesterday, Senators Mike Lee and Joni Ernst followed up on the Oversight Project’s disclosure and announced an investigation into the matter, sending a letter to Attorney General Pamela Bondi.

Oversight Project President Mike Howell gave this statement:

“While the fraud is gigantic, even small steps that illustrate the problem are helpful.  We are thankful that Senators Lee and Ernst are going to dig further into how this very suspicious organization, with ties to ISIS, was set to receive taxpayer money even in the context of national outcry about Somalian fraud in Minnesota.  We hope that the DOJ expands their inquiry into potential public corruption involving the lawmakers who pushed for this money to be given to the organization.  The American People realize that fraud, combined with mass migration, is the governing strategy of Democrats.  It’s time to hold the politicians accountable for their role in this mess.”
