Oversight Project Statement on Re-Arrest of Oscar Fowler III Following Release on Autopen Commutation
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 24, 2026
Washington, D.C.— The Oversight Project applauds Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier and law enforcement partners for the re-arrest of Oscar Fowler III on state charges. Last week, the Oversight Project altered Florida authorities that Fowler, a violent, career criminal who admitted to killing someone on camera and has a long rap sheet of violent crimes, was set to be released from federal custody following an illegitimate commutation under the Biden Autopen. In 2024, Fowler received an initial 12-and-a-half year sentence in federal prison, but ended up serving less than 2 years of that sentence.
Florida is safer because a violent criminal is no longer on its streets.
President Trump has made it clear that any commutations and pardons that the Biden Autopen made are “null and void.” At the Oversight Project, we are committed to keeping the government accountable. We will continue to alert local communities and state officials of violent criminals being let back into their communities under the Biden Autopen.
Oversight Project Vice President of Legal Kyle Brosnan offered the following statement:
“The Biden White House’s autopen has released more than a dozen violent felons back onto the streets of America. The recipients of these fake autopen commutations and pardons deserve to serve out their rightfully earned lengthy prison sentences. The Oversight Project applauds Attorney General Uthmeier for doing the right thing and keeping the citizens of Florida safe. There are hundreds of federal inmates still set to be released with illegitimate autopen commutations in the coming weeks, months, and years. It’s time for the federal Department of Justice to follow President Trump’s orders and stop treating the Biden autopen’s clemency actions as valid. We will continue alerting the public about future threats to public safety as they are set to be released because of the autopen.”
