Oversight Project Announces New Visiting Fellow

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 3, 2026

Washington, D.C.– The Oversight Project announced today that Scott Mechkowski has joined the organization as a Visiting Fellow for Deportation Studies. This addition will enhance the Oversight Project’s focus on mass deportations as we continue to back Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Customs and Border Protection, and other law enforcement agencies.

With over 22 years of experience with ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations, he brings a necessary perspective to the team. He has spent much time in New York where he was a part of many operations targeting gang members like MS-13, drug dealers, and terrorists, providing necessary insight into the danger of sanctuary cities.

President Mike Howell offered this statement on Scott Mechkowski joining the Oversight Project:

“Scott Mechkowski is joining the Oversight Project at a critical juncture for the country.  There seems to be a lot of confusion and propaganda about the necessity of ICE’s ongoing operations.  His work on deportation studies will help clear that up.  We will always support ICE against the violent campaigns and obstruction being led by demagogues.”
