Oversight Project Launches Campaign to Protect and Prioritize Victims of Weaponization over Politicians
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 17, 2025
Washington, D.C. – The Oversight Project launched a campaign to make whole the every day American victims of the weaponized Biden Justice Department. The Oversight Project published a video urging the public to call on their Senators to repeal the provision that allows Senators and only Senators whose phone records were subpoenaed by Special Counsel Jack Smith’s Operation Arctic Frost to collect $500,000 per subpoenaed phone record. Under the terms of the law, only Senators and no one else are eligible for the payout for being the victims of weaponized law enforcement.
Mike Howell, President of The Oversight Project offered the following quote:
“It’s time to put the people ahead of the politicians. The Biden Justice Department weaponized law enforcement to a scale never before seen in American history. It was reprehensible. Many great Americans had their financial and professional lives ruined through this process. It is deeply insulting to see the Senate add a provision to law that allows some Senators to instead line their own pockets. The Senate should follow the House’s lead and repeal that provision. The Trump Administration is well within their rights and would be applauded if they made all victims of weaponization whole through restitution. Our message to those victimized is simple: It’s your government and it shouldn’t be hurting you, but if it does then it should do everything to make you whole again.”
The U.S Senate added the provision that could potentially net Senators tens of millions of dollars in a middle-of-the-night backroom deal to reopen the government. The House of Representatives unanimously repealed that provision last month. The Senate should follow suit.
In addition, The Oversight Project sent a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche arguing that the recipients of President Trump’s pardon for prosecutions surrounding the 2020 contingent electors are eligible for restitution from the federal government. These people have been subjected to weaponized prosecutions in states across the country. Those prosecutions destroyed people financially and were wrong. The letter lays out the legal framework that would allow these victims of weaponization to be made whole without having to go in front of a biased judge. We urge the Trump Administration to take all steps to make these victims of weaponization whole.
