Oversight Project’s Statement on Self-Dealing Provisions in Shut Down Deal

Washington, D.C. — This is why people hate D.C. A backroom deal that funds Members of Congress’ offices, staffs, and perks for a year, combined with an obvious personal cash grab for some Senators who were improperly targeted by weaponized law enforcement, is disgusting. The deal is particularly gross because everyday Americans who were also subjected to weaponized law enforcement, suffered worse consequences, and lack any institutional advantage or support, are left completely in the dust.
The common American gets screwed over once again while the elite in Washington enrich themselves. This will have worse political consequences than the shutdown itself. People remember this stuff, and it will stick. It confirms people’s rightful suspicions about D.C. elites being in it for themselves. We have a country to save, and they should fight for it instead of themselves. This abomination needs to come out as soon as possible.
