The Oversight Project Files Legal Brief in D.C. Suit Against Trump Administration Washington, D.C. – The Oversight Project filed a legal brief urging the court to throw out Washington D.C.’s lawsuit against the Trump Administration challenging the Administration’s deployment of National Guard troops to keep our nation’s capital safe. The brief argues that as a creation of the federal government under the Constitution, the District of Columbia lacks legal standing to sue the federal government. The Oversight Project urged the court to dismiss the case on those grounds.
Kyle Brosnan, Vice President of Legal offered the following comment:
“The Constitution is crystal clear that Washington, D.C. is a creation of the federal government and that the federal government cannot sue itself. The District of Columbia is running to federal court to litigate a political disagreement with the Trump Administration. The proper place to address that disagreement lies in the halls of Congress, not the federal courthouse. The court should dismiss the District’s lawsuit and uphold President Trump’s correct decision to clamp down on violent crime in our nation’s capital.”
