Oversight Project Celebrates Fairness in Virginia, Demands JP Cooney Return Donations, Supports Democracy
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington, D.C.– The Oversight Project celebrates the Virginia Supreme Court’s decision to block a partisan redistricting proposal that would have unconstitutionally reshaped congressional representation. The proposed map would have distorted voter representation and potentially handed Democrats four additional seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. By rejecting the effort, the Court upheld the principle that electoral maps should reflect voters. This decision is a major victory for election integrity and fair representation, especially heading into the midterm elections.
Director of State Litigation Neal Cornett gave this statement:
“L. Louise Lucas has had a terrible week, alongside Barack Obama and Abigail Spanberger. The Virginia Supreme Court struck down an ill-conceived attempt to disenfranchise rural Americans. After burning almost one hundred million dollars, while simultaneously pretending to care about poor people, they only succeeded in stirring up a hornet’s nest of redistricting elsewhere. While those inside the Beltway often forget it, there’s a lot of Virginians outside of Arlington, Alexandria, and Fairfax County and they voted overwhelmingly to have some say in how they’re governed. This is a great victory for those folks.”
President Mike Howell gave this statement:
“Lawfare Democrat JP Cooney will now have to think of other ways to try to destroy the country. He was vying for a potential but now non-existent congressional seat. The Oversight Project demands that Cooney return all campaign donations immediately.”
