House Passes Funding Bill Providing $315 Million to National Endowment for Democracy

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 14, 2026

Washington, D.C. – Despite public outcry sparked by the Oversight Project and allies, Members of Congress voted to keep $315 million for the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) in their latest bloated funding bill.

The Oversight Project sounded the alarm after discovering the effort to fund NED, a far left organization that attacked conservative media outlets. We called on House Republicans to reject the funding and oppose passage of the “minibus” spending package. Unfortunately, the effort has made its way to the Senate with this horrible provision included. Inexplicably, 81 House Republicans voted to keep the provision in the bill, even though President Trump asked Congress not to fund the program.

We thank Representatives Eli Crane, Anna Paulina Luna, Chip Roy, and Thomas Massie for immediately stepping in to defend American taxpayers and conservative media. We thank Mike Benz for his years of fearless and sustained advocacy on this issue and the global censorship more broadly.

It is clear that too many Republicans do not care about results for the American People. We now urge principled Senators, like Mike Lee, to strip funding for NED when this bill arrives in the Senate.

Oversight Project President Mike Howell provided this statement:

“Today’s vote makes it even more abundantly clear that too many Republicans in Washington D.C. aren’t willing to do much of anything to dismantle taxpayer funded anti-American efforts.  This is Congress telling the White House and President Trump’s American First mandate to buzz off.  At least now we have the names of these Members on record, and for that reason forcing the vote was a win.  The fight now moves to the Senate and to Congressional Districts over the Country where furious voters that are sick of all talk and no action.  NED needs to be dead.”
